About The Program
The Harpswell Community School Water Safety Program has been running for more than 30 years thanks to the many dedicated volunteers and ongoing support from the community. The program provides Red Cross water safety and swimming instruction to Harpswell Community School students and homeschooled students each year. Students are taught by Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructors (WSI) and benefit from small instructor to swimmer ratios as well as individual instruction to meet student needs. All students in grades K-5 attend the program and swim at the Greason Pool, Bowdoin College in one hour sessions spread over 7-8 weeks. Students are taught skills based on the American Red Cross Water Safety and Learn to Swim standards and are evaluated for certification. Harpswell Community School is one of the very few schools fortunate enough to offer this invaluable life-saving program to its students and the greater Harpswell community.
